It was a remarkable achievement that was accomplished with the help of a dedicated team of trades, subcontractors and suppliers and, most importantly, the desire of the clients to go the extra mile on the finishing of their home. Marlene Bourque of High Design Studios worked closely with myself and the clients to provide them with an exceptional dream home. The basis of our relationship with our clients is rooted in trust and friendship and it is truly a pleasure to work with the variety of homeowners that we do and have all of that confirmed by the receiving of an award such as this. Best Residential Renovation $400,000.00 and over
The challenge of renovating this 30 year old home was in preserving an understated exterior so it would not overpower an otherwise conventional neighbourhood while providing an interior environment for the homeowners that suited their active lifestyle of work, travel and entertainment.
- The enhanced exterior drew upon the reuse of the entire structure, utilizing low maintenance materials and landscaping and providing strategic lighting.
- The interior was completely reworked to provide dramatic vaults and exposed beams and a much more efficient open plan allowing an uninterrupted flow between the social and private areas of the home.
- A variety of exotic materials from native limestone to walnut were worked by a team of finishers to provide unsurpassed quality for the varied atmospheres crated throughout the home.
- The home uses state of the art windows, in floor heating, and high efficiency fireplaces to support the modern contemporary feel without losing the warmth needed to produce a welcome home.
Best Kitchen Renovation
- This contemporary kitchen displays a range of materials and modern conveniences to make cooking a pleasure.
- The solid surface quartzite countertops and built-in appliances maximize todays demands of function and beauty.
- The peninsula with suspended shelving and the multi-level island with stainless steel foot rests, upper maple chop block countertop, and raised centerpiece, help to separate the kitchen from other adjacent areas, while providing the perfect work space solutions and encouraging social interaction.
- The vaulted ceilings, puck and pendant lighting add drama and ambiance while the combination cherry and stainless steel based table with a built-in banquet with leather seat and rich upholstery fabric is the perfect place to dine casually.
- The window coverings and art work add texture while the full pantry provides storage and a place for caterers when entertaining.
Best Master Suite - New or Renovation
- The dark wood in contrast to the limestone tile flooring, countertops and tub deck in this bathroom produces a dramatic and rich contrast.
- Staggered steps lead to the jetted soaker tub and invite you in.
- The pendant lighting fixtures, medicine cabinets behind mirror doors, and a makeup vanity with a terrycloth ottomon, are as beautiful as they are practical.
- Tucked behind the linen storage cabinet, the water closet is cleverly separated by a stainless steel and wood panel.
- This "his and hers" walk-in closet provides ample storage with pull out drawers, hooks for belts, and adjustable full length mirrors throughout.
- This custom designed king bed with leather headboard, clean lined nightstands, and built-in shelving with reading lights, fulfilled the clients desires for beauty and function.
- Wool carpets and warm caramel toned walls and furniture provided comfort and warmth, while the window coverings were kept light and fresh to make mornings all the more pleasurable.
Best Interior Design - Custom Residence
- This 30 year old home was transformed into a warm and inviting environment. Floor plans were redesigned increasing function and traffic flow. While custom built-in and freestanding furniture, art work, and accessories throughout, made it a very unique home.
- Maple flooring tandemed with horizontal VG cherry cabinets and built-ins, custom french doors, ceiling details, and stone work create an inviting space while adding interest to several rooms simultaneously.
- This home theater cabinetry was designed with a bowed front limiting its imposition in the space. Rich red walls, cork floors, faux finished ceilings, and leather furniture made it a perfect place to enjoy evenings.
- This elegant old world dining room with distressed table and upholstered chairs exudes ambiance. The coffered ceilings and floor borders add character to this distinctive space.
- The spa boasts slate walls and floors, a steam room and shower with cedar benches and glass block. Definitely a place of luxury.
